About the National Lawyers Guild - BLS Chapter:
Guided by our principles of movement building, cross-movement solidarity, and people over property and profit, BLS-NLG aims to defend and advance people’s rights against the state, corporate interests, and oppressive structures, and build a better world through discussions, sharing resources, legal observing, and member-organized events. This year, our members have facilitated panels, Know Your Rights workshops, Legal Observer trainings, and general body meetings, wherein students have had opportunities to engage with the law from a practical and progressive point of view, make connections with likeminded individuals, and protect people’s civil rights as legal observers at protests happening all over New York City.
Your support will help NLG:
- - Host diverse and system-impacted speakers at school events, such as currently and formerly incarcerated individuals, survivors of immigration detention, low-wage workers, and more.
- -Provide an informal, supportive network for progressive- and left-minded students to congregate and discuss the law
- -Facilitate NLG legal observation and know your rights trainings for legal workers and future attorneys
- -Engage in creative endeavors like a semesterly newsletter and mutual aid projects
- -Encourage professional and personal connections between NLG student members, BLS NLG alumni, and NYC NLG chapter members
THANK YOU!!
