Please Support the American Civil Liberties Union - BLS Chapter!
BLS-American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a school club that promotes the mission of the National ACLU organization and provides a supportive networking system for law students with an interest in raising awareness of civil liberties issues. We host educational panel and events to promote awareness on and off campus, with the goal to get students involved in advocacy efforts. We advocate for the values of the American Civil Liberties Union in its pursuit to defend and promote the fundamental principles and values embodied in the Bill of Rights, the U.S. Constitution, and the New York Constitution. For our efforts, within our club our committees that focus on specific areas of advocacy; the groups are (but are not limited to) Health and Disability Rights, Smart Justice, Gender and Sexuality Rights, Voting Rights, Immigrant Rights, and Labor and Worker’s Rights. Each semester, the committees put on various events to educate students in these different fields, ranging from available careers after law school or current issues relating to the area.
Because of the many committees, we do bring in many speakers and host many events! Your support today would mean more support for these events and being able to do more throughout the year!
Some of the events we had this year:
- Defending Democracy: Panel on Election Law and Voting Rights Ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, Guest Speaker Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes
- State of the Union: Unions in Legal Workplaces
- Faculty/networking ACLU Panel
- Applying to ACLU internships: a how-to with BLS students who are current and past ACLU interns
